Women are inherently led by the body

Menarche, menstruation, orgasm, birth, postpartum and menopause—

These are some of the most significant physical events in a woman's lifetime.

Throughout history, particularly in indigenous and ancient civilizations, these events were celebrated and regarded with reverence.

A girl's menarche experience was an important marker of the transition she was undertaking to womanhood.

A woman's monthly bleed was a highly spiritual time for rest, receiving visions, and nourishing her energy stores for the next cycle.

When a woman orgasmed, it was understood as her directly opening to God. There was nothing holier than a woman's ecstasy.

Birth was the ultimate portal experience between the spirit and physical world. It was a great honor to hold space for a birthing and postpartum woman.

A menopausal woman was respected as a wise elder. She was cared for in this tender transition and held while her role in the community shifted.

When I reflect back on my own transitions through womanhood, there's an underlying feeling of dismissal and even fear that I know a lot of women can relate to.

We often try to take care of the practical, masculine details— "use this tampon", "take this pill", "go to the doctor", etc.

But the community, mentorship, sacredness, depth are lost on us.

And the result is the painful disconnection of women from their power.

How many of us have felt like strangers in our own bodies? Cursed our blood? Feared the physiology of birth? Thought our only superpower was in our youth and beauty?

It doesn’t have to be like this.

I have felt what happens when you return to living a life that prioritizes your natural female physiology.

A life where you are no longer trying to fit yourself into a masculine, overly-structured world.

You are the world. You are the life force. You are the cycle. You are the vessel of pleasure.

Your body is the map and you are the great explorer.

I believe that we will all come back to this place in our own time.

It starts with acknowledging the current rite of passage our body is moving us through.

Can you love your bleeding, orgasmic, pregnant, motherly, and/or menopausal body?

That is the task for today and a lifetime.
