My Favorite Morning Practice— Best Case Scenario Journaling

I’ve had an avid journaling habit for many years.

My journaling practice especially became a staple in my life over the past few years when I was going through a more challenging period of my life internally.

Every morning, I’d wake up, spend at least 30 minutes trying to put all the tension and emotions that seemed to be circulating my mind onto paper.

After about two years of intense journaling, I came to the point of just feeling burnt out on the practice.

I wasn’t sure if just mind dumping my thoughts every morning really was helping me.

In fact, a lot of the time it felt like it was keeping me stuck in a loop of feeling bad for myself, being overly self-focused, and almost looking for problems in my life.

Sometimes journaling does need to be a mental vomit session.

And other times journaling needs to be about creation, intention, and visioning.

Over the past month, I’ve been experimenting with a new method of journaling called Best Case Scenario Journaling.

And I can honestly say this is my new favorite daily practice.

Our minds need encouragement to break the patterns of the worst case scenario thinking that many of us are stuck in.

It’s this exact pattern that with consistent, daily rewiring has immense power to transform the way you feel about your life and yourself.

Let’s get into how exactly Best Case Scenario Journaling works and how to form a daily practice for yourself:

What is Best Case Scenario Journaling?

Best Case Scenario Journaling is the practice of writing down the absolute best, wildest, most incredible case scenario of whatever anxieties, circumstances, or problems are on your mind.

Whereas with a more typical journaling practice where you write down whatever is bothering you and focus on the more negative, troubling aspects of your situation, the Best Case Scenario Journaling method turns that on its head.

You are essentially forcing your mind to think in, well, the best case scenario, of whatever your current situation is. Because of that, you’re able to easily see the silver lining or how things aren’t as dire or bad as maybe your mind has made them out to be.

Don’t get this practice confused with manifestation or overriding your very real, genuine pain with forced positivity!

Best Case Scenario Journaling definitely has a manifestation element to it. But it’s more of a firm encouragement of the positive and delivering a sense of freedom to your mind to explore the full spectrum of possibilities within your circumstances.

Yes, there’s always the worst case scenario but there’s also the best version of that scenario as well as something right in between that spectrum.

Examples of Best Case Scenario Journaling

I know when I first sat down to start Best Case Scenario Journaling I wasn’t completely sure if I was doing it right or how far to take my best scenarios.

I wanted to put down visions that felt amazing and uplifting but also could genuinely resonate with my body and feel like they could be true on some realistic level.

Here are some helpful examples to help you with approaching your own Best Case Scenario Journaling practice:

Let’s say I was struggling with a health issue or health scare that was leaving me feeling really dysregulated and anxious every morning. All the worst case scenarios and problem solving loops were just running through my mind almost constantly. Maybe the symptoms I was feeling were quite noticeable and dysregulating.

“Good morning! This morning I woke up feeling quite anxious about my [insert health symptoms]. It sent me into a mental spiral about all the possible things that could be going on with my body and how long I might be dealing with these symptoms. But then I remembered. . .

This is just a very temporary part of my life and journey. I can’t see it fully now but I will very soon understand why this is happening within my body, integrate the full lesson, and heal miraculously with a very simple and enjoyable resolution. This health scare is actually a huge catalyst for me into the next phase of my love and growth for myself. I’m so excited for all the ways it’s initiating me.

My partner and I are growing closer as a result of this situation. My friends have become an even bigger and more joyful part of my life. And my body is feeling the best it ever has in my life after completing this portion of my health journey. I have learned so much and am so proud of myself! I can’t wait to [insert hobbies/activities I’ve been missing doing due to illness]. I’m so glad I trusted the process of this and continued to cultivate my inner joy.”

Here’s another example—

Let’s say I was feeling really stuck financially and kept receiving rejection after rejection from various opportunities I was going after. Every morning when I woke up, I was already feeling low and hopeless about my situation.

“I am so grateful for this period of my life where I’ve known emptiness and struggle. It has prepared me greatly for where I am now! I am so full of gratitude for the constant stream of financial abundance and opportunities that just keep flowing my way. Because of the “down” that I experienced, I am so much better equipped to feel gratitude and complete openness to all the incredible things that have come my way. Waiting for the right opportunity was so worth it. I am exactly where I am supposed to be right now. To my younger self— trust the discomfort, follow your intuition, and take bold action. You will get exactly where you need to be. I would know, I’m already here ;) “

There is truly no *perfect* or one way to practice Best Case Scenario Journaling. As you can see from my examples, the tenses and tone change between the two examples.

It’s more about tuning into what your present self needs from your future self any given day.

In my personal journal entries, I also tend to get much more specific about the wins and positive outcomes I’m calling in for myself.

Sometimes it’s advice, sometimes it’s comfort. It is always however, claiming and creating the best version possible of what your current circumstances can evolve into.

The storms always come and they always pass.

Find freedom in your mind so you can experience true freedom in your life.

With love,

Jules

P.S. Just in case you’re feeling really inspired to begin your new journaling practice this week, here is one of my favorite journals to write in. It’s just pretty, spacious, and reminds me of being in school ❤️
